Pete West

Pete has been a fire fighter for 42 years serving in Annapolis, Md., onboard a US Navy Destroyer, Virginia Beach, Va., Upland, CA, Fairfax County, Va. and Loudoun County, Va. He was Fire Chief for the Fair Oaks VFD for nineteen years, Battalion Chief Fairfax County for six years and is currently Assistant Chief Philomont VFD in Loudoun County. Pete has also restored and maintains two antique fire trucks: a 1965 Chevrolet/ American LaFrance and a 1926 Buffalo/Larrabee. He is a member of SPAAMFAA and of the Old Dominion Historical Fire Society (ODHFS). Many of the book pictures were taken by Pete as he served in Fairfax County.
 

Mike Sanders

Mike currently resides in Loudoun County, Virginia with his wife Lisa and five sons (Andrew, David, Jordan, Nicholas, and Luke). He was born and raised in Vienna, Virginia and lived in Fairfax County for about 25 years.  Mike is currently compiling an apparatus history of all Northern Virginia fire and rescue departments, which includes not  only Fairfax County, but Alexandria, Arlington County, Loudoun County, and Prince William County.  Mike is a volunteer firefighter with the Ashburn Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, Station 6 in  Loudoun County. He is employed in the insurance industry.
