These will be the last in-progress photos as the model is just about finished. The 3D Enforcer cab is not quite as long as the Lance cab that came on the Code 3 model that I started this project with. As I like to re-use C3 chassis whenever possible on my 3D conversions, some cutting was necessary to shorten the chassis a little more than 1/8 of an inch. Some additional filing of the chassis was necessary so that the 3D cab would rest properly on it. I use square brass hollow rods to reinforce the two chassis pieces when I join them back together. The first photo shows what this looks like. I cut them long enough so that they span both chassis pieces - this gives it the strength it needs not to buckle at the seam. The second photo shows the cab and chassis re-joined, and the third photo shows the completed decal work. I hope to have it done within the next day or two, so keep an eye out for it in the Fire Modeling section.

Looking at the white cab above what I would do would be to make a plug that would fit right into the windshield opening from the outside. Leave it just a bit small so that the clear plastic would be flush with the outside of the cab. You could build up the plug using a block of wood, sanding the corners round to fit the cab contours. This plug could then be used as the buck for the clear. Once the buck is made I'd paint it and make it as smooth as I could. This way there will be no imperfections in the clear plastic as it forms. Mike, could you sand the bad paint with some coarse paper; sand it down to the bare plastic, wash it and repaint it?
I sanded my Dash CF four times before it was smooth enough to prime, paint and clear coat.

First, my apologies for not updating this thread in a while. I ran into major paint issues with the Dash CF cab, so I have scrapped it and will be using an Enforcer cab instead. So far so good - the white paint is on and dried, and the green roof will be applied later today. here's a pic thus far.

All I can tell you about the paint problem is this.
After applying some body putty and sanding the heck
out of it until smooth, I washed it TWICE with dish soap
and water, and rinsed it several times. Then let it dry
overnight and sprayed the primer, let it dry overnight,
and added top coat (color) and finally clear coat. A lot
of work, but you see the results. I have built two Shapeways
cabs, and have had no paint problems. Just took my time and
made sure they were absolutely clean before priming.

Thanks for sharing your tips. I’ve run into a little snag with paint “cracking” on one side of the cab, so I’m working on rectifying that before I move on with assembly. Oh the joys of model building

I built one using J B Mayes cab also.I used a Code 3 San Diego chassis and body.
I used a Tower from Chicago 63. I painted the ladder RustOLeum Charcoal, the
cab and body RustOLeum red. The "glass" is cut from a take out food box, sprayed
lightly with charcoal gray paint. A lot of cutting, sanding and test fitting, but it
finally worked. There was a lot of sanding and filling on the cab to get it smooth.
Also, I filled in the bottom of the doors, to make them full length. Sti

make decals. Stripes are Leheigh Valley locomotive decals.
