Building progress LACoFD Lifeguard Ford F-350
Hi again,
following you see the building steps to my latest project.
This time I again used the 1:43 scale 2008 Ford F-250 from New Ray.
since I made a seperate topic with the replacement of the tires, I skip the part for this build
So at this stage I already cut the rear bed away and shortened the driver cabine.
Fits perfect already ...
and the cabine parts glued together

Next was the cardboard mock up for the rear compartment section.
measurments were ok, so the 1mm styrene sheet version followed.
First all parts cut out

Meanwhile I also had modified the towing hitch
After punching holes into the compartment doors for the handles, the base rear compartment frame was done.

After reenforcing the compartment frame, the rear section base was done.
I even incorporated small 2mm bolts into the base for better attachment to the chassis

Re: Building progress LACoFD Lifeguard Ford F-350
With this done I started to create the racks for the surfboard and the stretcher basket.
After several unsuccessful attemps of cutting "free hand" angled frames in the past , I this time choosed to make a subframe or guideframe to get the correct angles for the racks
For the racks I used 1x2 mm strip styrene and L-shape strips as mounting feet.
and checking if the racks fit

Speaking of the surfboard, this onefollowed next
I basically drew a free hand shape onto some cardboard and traced it onto a 1mm styrene sheet, once happy with the shape. The small fin was simply created by cutting a small triangle out of 0,5 mm styrene and filing a small notch with a round file into it. Finally I rounded the edges and bent the piece to achieve the surfboard appearence.

The next step was to modify the regular mirrors to the extended version as used with the utility/commercial versions.
Since I already explained the steps with my FDNY HazTac und NYPD ESU unit, here just the pictures of the progress.
After this the paintjob followed.

With the paint on, I completed the mirrors.
And an overview of the model so far.

Re: Building progress LACoFD Lifeguard Ford F-350
Since the main bodywork was done,I now concentrated on the details.
Starting with the front pushbar, out of black 0,5 mm styrene, 1,5 mm styrene rods, tubes and 2mm U-shape rods.
First the pushbar...
...the front winch parts with the hook...

...and the winch.
The next part was the stretcher/basket, out of 1 mm, 1,5 mm and 0,3 mm styrene and 1 mm styrene round rod.
