Greenlight along with the PSP Historivcal Museum have released the next pair of models in their series.
As expected they are done in 1/43 scale and in the new scheme. Well kind of for the latter. Something went wrong on the design and concept of these models. They are filled with tons of errors. Both in execution and in the castings.
Here is the quick list.
Errors
1. Belt line stripe is missing from both cars
2. Car number is missing from both cars
3. Troop number is in wrong position on Explorer
4. Rear valance is body color on Explorer
Casting issues
1. Taurus is an SHO or at least has the SHO wing on the rear - Did FRR make an SHO?
2, Light bars are generic.
3. Wheels are much smaller than on previous FRR releases - Where did these come from?
4. Push bars are mounted too low on both models, especially so on the Explorer
5. No antennae on the roofs
I am glad that the Museum continued with the series. But it would be interesting to find out how this model came to be in this form.
Also with the significant difference to the previous FRR bodies released before, it begs the question if these are in fact the old FRR molds or were new ones made. As a note many of us made comments on the wheel sizes on their preproduction photos and the reply is that they will be correct. Also I saw one of the new Tahoe blanks and it just doesn't look as crisp as the old FRR model.
If anything these have inspired me to do a custom build of these cars.

Interceptor SUV
Again I am disappointed because the previous versions were darn near perfect. Obviously they were a labor of love.

It's a shame FRR is gone.

Makes me so glad that I had Rich do these two PSP cars for my collection............
May be a lighting issue...but it appears that actual color is wrong as well

Re: New Pennsylvania State Police FRR/GL
As I had posted on EmergencyModeler, these are the FRR toolings. FRR did indeed model a Taurus SHO. However, it was decided not to produce it. It was a completely different body than the Police Interceptor. They tooled the deck lid spoiler, a different grille, and different civilian wheels for it. The interior had the option to leave out the center console. I have all of the test shot bodies. For Greenlight to put the deck lid spoiler on a Police Interceptor just baffles me. They are a bottom line dollar company, so this extra step that was not necessary, cost extra. Greenlight has no one like Dennis Deal, driving each release and making sure of accuracy. The bottom line is money, so each release is money driven, not collector driven. These models are not even the correct color, let alone the missing details. Its possible that they used a different tire, making the wheel/tire arrangement look smaller. I did enlarge your photos Jeff, and it looks like the FRR wheels. I suspect that there is no one at Greenlight that knows what each part is on the plastic inject, so they go with what the factory workers think is correct. I also suspect that because there were so many different parts on the plastic injects, that they do not run them each time, trying to save money. Here is a photo of the Taurus SHO with grille and civilian wheel next to a Police Interceptor.
